This is the third year I have attended the CGTA, each and every year I am so impressed how well this show is organized and the quality of the seminars. This morning I attended a keynote address from Eric Ryan, cofounder of Method line of cleaning products. What an inspirational story and it sounds like a fun company to work for…a place where you bring your personality to work and a place where that is celebrated and explored. The founders have used ingenuity and creativity to develop and market their business using a variety of methods. I recently downloaded their book “The Method Method”, even though I have a completely divergent business, I always feel that there are elements that can be gleaned from other people’s examples.
As I move into the next phase of the flower shop’s development (as we transition into a new space at the end of September on Belmont and Bank) I am constantly thinking about what I can do differently. What will this new space look like? What products will I show case? Will I only offer floral designs (and floral accessories) or home and lifestyle products?-in store design classes and seasonal events? As the last seminar I took suggested, ask your clients (or as Eric Ryan calls them advocates) what they want?
